Greek Member of Parliament with the New Democracy Party, Dr. Eleftheria Bernidaki-Aldous, expressed her condolences to Archbishop Demetrios of America and the Greek-American community for the passing of Archbishop Iakovos Formerly of North and South America.
The Greek Member of Parliament stated the following:
“As a former resident of the United States of America, I was among the late Archbishop Iakovos’ flock and I was blessed with the opportunity to know first hand the importance of his spiritual and religious leadership.
Archbishop Iakovos was a great figure of Christianity and an effective spokesman for the ecumenical values of Greek Orthodoxy.
He loved the Greek nation, its language and its culture, and passionately defended human rights around the world.
This great leader had the gift to combine idealism with the recognition of the true needs of the times.
One of his great accomplishments was to keep the Greek-American community united and to guide it to a position of prominence within U.S. society.
His work will be a permanent beacon of hope and guidance for future generations.
May the Lord rest his soul.”
